Words

Words.jpg

Where do words come from?
From what rubbing of sound are they born
on what flint do they light their wicks
what winds brought them into our mouths.

Their past is the ruffling of stifled silences
the trumpeting of molten elements
the grunting of stagnant waters.

Sometimes
they grip each other with a cry
expand into lamentations
become mist on the windows of dead houses
crystallize into chips of grief on dead lips
attach themselves to a fallen star
dig their hole in nothingness
breathe our strayed souls.

Words are rocky tears
the keys to the first doors
they grumble in caverns
lend their ruckus to storms
their silence to bread that’s ovened alive.

Words are powerful tools. If I try to imagine how one could consider ideas without using words, it's like trying to imagine a color or sound one vaguely recalls from infancy but has not experienced again.
I love the Scrabble boards pix. It is your board? And have you ever played Upwords?

Wax: Actually I don't remember where I got the scrabble board pixs from, which is odd as I do try to give attribution to pictures like that.

No clue what Upwords is, what, pray tell, is it?

It's similar to Scrabble but one can build vertically also, up to six tiles high. mount can go to court can go to coral can go to cortex because as long as the preceding word has at least one letter used, the length can grow. The new word has to work with all intersecting words, too. It's a fun game, too, especially if you like Scrabble.
I'd love to play either Scrabble or Upwards with some of the bloggers I know.
